A homicide investigation is underway after an elderly woman was found dead inside her home in Townsville.

The discovery was made by police who were investigating an earlier attempted murder at a home on the same street in Wulguru.

“Police were conducting inquiries on Wright Street shortly after 9am in relation to the attempted murder of a 26-year-old woman and 28-year-old man last night when officers located the body of an 80-year-old woman in a nearby residence,” a statement by police reads.

A crime scene has been established at both homes, however it is not known whether the two are linked.

Police say a 32-year-old man arrested at the scene overnight remains in police custody at hospital as investigations continue.
