Her 75-year-old husband also suffered bite marks.
The couple was taken to Liverpool Hospital but the woman’s condition deteriorated and she passed away late on Thursday.
The dog is understood to be a Ridgeback cross Staffy and had been the couple’s pet for more than three years.
It has been seized by Wollondilly Council and is likely to be destroyed.
Police will now prepare a report for the Coroner.
