Elderly woman sexually assaulted at Kingscliff

POLICE are on the hunt for man who sexually assaulted an elderly woman at Kingscliff on Wednesday night.

Around 8pm, a 75-year-old woman was at her unit on Kingscliff Street when she heard a knock on the sliding door.

When she opened the door a man forced his way into the unit before sexually assaulting her and then fleeing the scene.


Police were called to the unit about an hour later where they established a crime scene which was examined by specialist forensic officers.

The woman was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital for treatment.

Detectives from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command are investigating the assault and appealing for anyone who saw the man in the vicinity of Kingscliff Street about 8pm to come forward.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his late 30s, 180cm tall with a thin build, short light-brown hair and wearing a distinctive grey-coloured “PING’ brand baseball cap and a white t-shirt.
