Elderly woman struck and killed by car while using pedestrian crossing

An elderly woman has died after being hit by a car at Richmond, in Sydney’s far west this afternoon.

The 78-year-old woman was run over by a Toyota Rav-4 at the intersection of Lennox and West Market Streets just after 2pm.

It’s believed she was attempting to cross at a pedestrian crossing when she was struck.

She was rushed to Westmead Hospital where she tragically died a few hours later.

The 68-year-old female driver was interviewed and conveyed to Hawkesbury Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

Police from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit are investigating and will now prepare a report for the Coroner.
