Elderly woman’s face split open in brutal car park attack

A MAN has been arrested after allegedly splitting an elderly woman’s face open in a brutal attack on the NSW South Coast.

Police said the 84-year-old woman was sitting in her vehicle in a car park on Perry Street at Batemans Bay when she was attacked around 11.15am on Friday.

It’s alleged the man repeatedly punched the elderly woman in the head, causing severe lacerations.

The 43-year-old man allegedly tried running away but was chased down by a member of the public who heard the woman screaming for help.

The Good Samaritan held the woman’s attacker in a staircase until police and paramedics arrived.

The 43-year-old was arrested and taken to Batemans Bay Police Station where he remained on Friday afternoon, assisting police with their inquiries.

The 84-year-old woman was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Batemans Bay Hospital.

She has since been transferred to Moruya Hospital for further treatment.
