Baz Luhrman has selected the star of his next movie about Elvis, which will be filmed here on the Gold Coast.
Austin Butler will play the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll in the upcoming biopic, after beating out a few A-listers for the roll.
It’s understood Baz Lurhman – Australian director of ‘Romeo and Juliet’, ‘Moulin Rouge’ and ‘Australia’ – undertook a worldwide search for his star.

Austin Butler knocked out other shortlisted candidates: Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller, Harry Styles, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson for the role.
He’ll star alongside Tom Hanks, who plays Elvis’ manager, Colonel Tom Parker.
Filming is expected to get underway on the Gold Coast by the end of this year.
