EMERGENCY | Residents told to ‘seek shelter’ as out of control bushfire rages in NSW
AN emergency warning has been issued after a bushfire jumped containment lines near Port Macquarie in northern NSW.
The NSW Rural Fire Service said the blaze is burning in the vicinity of Lake Innes, south of Port Macquarie.
“The fire has breached containment lines and is moving quickly in a southerly direction towards Lake Cathie,” the statement read.
“The fire is more than 700 hectares in size and is out of control.
If you're in the Lake Cathie area, watch out for spot fires. There is a significant amount of embers being blown towards the area from the Crestwood Drive fire. #nswrfs #nswfires pic.twitter.com/frKJrz3wnH

“Strong north winds are blowing smoke and embers well ahead of the main fire creating spot fires.”
“Firefighters are working to slow the spread of the fire and protect properties in the area.”
Residents living on the northern side of Lake Cathie village including areas off Kenwood Drive, Lakeside Way and Long Point Drive monitor for burning embers and spot fires.

The next warning will be issued at 12.30pm.
