Emergency situation declared on the Gold Coast

UPDATE at 12:50 PM | AN emergency situation declared following the discovery of a suspicious device on the Gold Coast has been revoked.

The bomb squad was called in to examine the device, which was found outside a home on Cawthray Street in Biggera Waters about 9.20am.

An emergency situation was declared just before 11.30am and an exclusion zone set up around the property while emergency services responded to the incident.

After closer inspection, specialist police deemed the device to be safe and lifted the exclusion zone shortly after midday.

FIRST at 12 NOON | AN emergency situation has been declared on the Gold Coast following the discovery of a suspicious device.

The mystery device was located outside a home on Cawthray Street in Biggera Waters on Saturday morning.

An emergency situation was declared under the Public Safety Preservation Act about 11.25am.

An exclusion zone has been set up around the home, encompassing Hollywell Road down to Cawthray Street.

Emergency services including specialist police are in attendance.

Members of the public are being urged to avoid the area.
