Suspicious device found near Qld supermarket deemed safe

UPDATE: Police have revoked an emergency declaration made under the Public Safety Preservation Act in West Ipswich this morning.

An emergency situation was declared around 8.35am after a suspicious device was located near a supermarket at a shopping complex on Brisbane Street.

The device has been examined by specialist police and has been deemed to be harmless.

The declaration was revoked around 10.30am with the exclusion zone lifted.

EARLIER: Police have declared an emergency situation declared under the Public Safety Preservation Act in West Ipswich.

An emergency situation was declared around 8.35am after a suspicious device was located near a supermarket at a shopping complex on Brisbane Street.

Specialist police are attending the scene to inspect the device, and there is a cordon in place for the centre along the boundaries of Brisbane Street and Keogh Street.

People are being advised to avoid the area.
