The Video Music Awards were on yesterday and I think there is a new law in show business and it is that a Beyonce segment will obliterate whatever else surrounds it. Coldplay learnt that the hard way at the Superbowl and Rihanna and Britney Spears learnt that the hard way at the VMAs.

Britney mimed again – She has obviously lost confidence in some way and I guess it’s tough when you are performing against someone like Beyonce.

Bey won pretty much everything and she did a 16 minute show – she is a musical athlete! One thing everyone is talking about is that she took her daughter Blue Ivy along to the awards. It’s interesting that she did that because most celebrities try to hide their kids from the limelight – Beyonce and Jay-Z, and Kanye and Kim for that matter, are not afraid I guess.

Of course, Kanye jumped up and did a 16 minute ramble. And he did address the whole Taylor Swift drama:

I want to give a shout out to Alicia Keys, who is making a stand against the beauty industry. She walked the red carpet, did a Martin Luther King Jr. speech and sang a bit as well all without wearing any makeup. She is doing it on behalf of young people, and all people really, and showing that we are all beautiful, we don’t need all that makeup and airbrushing. It won’t stop me from using Instagram filters, but good on her for trying.

Vibin’ with friends tonight at the #VMAs ?

Gene Wilder has sadly passed away. He had Alzheimer’s. His nephew released a statement saying that he didn’t want anyone to know he had alzheimer’s because when kids saw him they would say ‘Hi Willy Wonka’ with a smile on their face. He didn’t want that smile to turn upside down by an adult telling the child that he had alzheimer’s. Gene is one of the funniest men of all time, he is one of the godfathers of modern comedy.

I only just watched Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with Millie yesterday. What a year – in 2016 so far we have lost Gene, David Bowie, Prince, Muhammad Ali, Garry Shandling, George Martin, Alan Rickman! It’s been a weird year, it’s like God is giving everyone a golden ticket and bringing them all up. RIP Gene Wilder.

Until tomorrow,
