Emmanuel Macron, 39, elected as France’s new president
Emmanuel Macron has defeated Marine Le Pen in the French presidential election, becoming France’s youngest ever president since Napoleon.
The 39-year-old claimed the title with exit polls predicting he won the vote 65.8 per cent to 32.2 per cent.
“A new page in our long history has turned tonight,” Mr Macron said in a statement.
“I want it to be that of rediscovery of hope and trust.”
