Estranged husband of murdered NSW teacher extradited to NSW

A man is currently being extradited to NSW after being arrested in Queensland over the murder of popular NSW school teacher Sharon Edwards.

Mrs Edwards, a 55-year-old mother and grandmother, was reported missing on Tuesday 17 March 2015.

She was last seen about 10.30pm on Saturday 14 March, when she arrived at her home in Grafton, following dinner at a local pub with friends.

She was due to teach classes the following Monday, but failed to turn up.

Following investigations, detectives from Queensland Police Service’s Homicide Squad arrested a 61-year-old man at a home in Redcliffe, Queensland, just after 1pm yesterday.

He was taken to Brisbane Watch House and appeared at Brisbane Magistrates Court, where NSW investigators applied for and were granted his extradition to NSW.

The man will travel with detectives to Tweed Heads Police Station, where he will be charged with murder.

He is expected to face Tweed Heads Local Court later today.
