Ethical Standards Command investigates man’s death in Queensland

THE Ethical Standards Command is investigating the death of a man who died shortly after being arrested in Far North Queensland overnight.

Exact details of the incident are not yet known, however, the Queensland Police Service confirmed the man, whose age is not known, died in Townsville Hospital around 3am on Saturday.

It’s understood the man had been arrested and taken into police custody earlier in the night.


Police have not said why the man was arrested, or whether he was still in custody at the time he died.

The incident has been reported to the Coroner, as well as the Crime and Corruption Commission.

In a statement on Saturday morning, police said the Ethical Standards Command had been tasked to investigate the incident on behalf of the Coroner.
