Extra police out in force for tonight’s State of Origin opener in Brisbane

EXTRA police have been deployed to safeguard Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium for tonight’s State of Origin opener.

Tens of thousands of diehard footy fans are expected to flock to the stadium to watch Game 1 tonight.

The stadium has since confirmed that security will be tight with thorough bag checks to be conducted upon entry in the wake of the barbaric terror attack at Manchester Arena.

Additional police will also be on duty to safeguard the stadium to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable night.

“Advice from Suncorp Stadium management is to avoid possible delays at the stadium gates by arriving early to assist with security process involving bag searches,” police said in a statement.

There will also be a minute’s silence before kick-off in honour of Senior Constable Brett Forte who was shot and killed in the line of duty in the Lockyer Valley.

Those attending tonight’s game are encouraged to take advantage of free travel to and from the stadium.
