The world’s leading social media platform, Facebook, has today been announced as an Official Supporter of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
It’s been revealed that in the lead up to the Games, the platform will launch a content series featuring our very own Australian athletes.
At Games time, the platform will then connect Australians with their heroes via a customised Facebook Live studio right here on the Gold Coast!

Facebook Australia & New Zealand, Managing Director, William Easton, said Facebook’s support for GC2018 was a natural fit, with sport being one of the most talked about topics on the platform in 2017.
“Over the past year, we’ve seen 15 million Australians on Facebook come together to connect and share with family and friends, with key moments in sport the focus of the conversation,” Mr Easton said.
“We are committed to investing in Australia’s future, and as one of Australia’s largest international sporting events for 2018, we saw an opportunity to help bring people together to share in the excitement of the Games.”
GC2018 is only the third Commonwealth Games to use social media, with Games Chairman Peter Beattie looking forward to showcasing the Gold Coast to the rest of the world via the online platform.
“The Commonwealth Games are a truly global event and by working with Facebook, athletes and visitors from around the Commonwealth will share their experience at the Games via Facebook promoting the Gold Coast around the world.”
