Facebook reactivates account of young woman named Isis

A Facebook user has had her account reactivated after it was taken offline because of her name.

Isis Anchalee Tweeted that she could not access her Facebook page because the site suspected her of being a terrorist.

Islamic State or ISIS has claimed responsibility for a string of terror attacks including the ones in Paris and the bringing down of a Russian airliner over Egypt last month.

Ms Anchalee launched the #ILookLikeAnEngineer social media campaign earlier this year.

She took to Twitter to say “Facebook thinks I’m a terrorist. Apparently sending them a screenshot of my passport is not good enough for them to reopen my account”.

A short time later she posted that she had regained access to her account.

“Third time sending in my information is the charm I guess. I’m back in :),” she wrote.

She also retweeted two posts from Omid Farivar, a researcher at Facebook.  “Isis, sorry about this. I don’t know what happened. I’ve reported it to the right people and we’re working on fixing it”.

“Update: your account should be back. Sorry again.”
