Fallen tree sparks power outage, grass fire in Gold Coast hinterland

A fallen tree has brought down powerlines in Tamborine Mountain this afternoon, sparking a small grass fire.

The incident happened on Siganto Street and School Road just after 1.30pm.

Two fire crews are currently on scene, with another one en-route to help battle the flames.

The Queensland Fire and Emergency service is warning residents in the area they will be affected by smoke.

“Smoke may affect residents and motorists in the area. Residents should close their doors and windows and keep medication close by if suffering from a respiratory condition. Motorists should use caution and drive to conditions.”

More than 200 homes are without power in Tamborine Mountain, with more than 120 blacked out at Guanaba.

Energex crews are on scene working to fix the issue.
