Families in mourning after four mates killed in two separate crashes in NSW

SEVERAL families have been plunged into mourning after four young mates were killed in two separate car accidents that occurred within hours of each other in NSW.

Two young men died when the car they were in slammed into a power pole and burst into flames at Morriset in the Lake Macquarie area early this morning.

Police said the horrific crash happened on Marconi Road, near Macquarie Street, just after 1.30am.

Emergency services arrived to find the vehicle engulfed in a fireball, with the driver and passenger still inside.

Their bodies were found in the burnt wreck after the inferno was extinguished.

A little over two hours earlier, two mates were killed in a crash while heading to an event in the state’s Riverina.

A search was launched to locate the men, aged 27 and 25, on a private property near Booroorban, approximately 46km south of Hay, around 10pm on Friday after they failed to turn up to the function.

The dual cab ute the men were travelling in was found overturned in a paddock a short time later.

Police said the two men, aged 25 and 25, were found outside the vehicle and died at the scene.

They too were still yet to be formally identified this morning.
