THE family of Evans Head shark attack victim Craig Ison has released a statement, thanking those first on the scene.
The much-loved surfer suffered major injuries to his left leg and arm when mauled by a shark at the beach near Ballina on the NSW Far North Coast on Friday morning.
Following treatment at Lismore Hospital, he was transferred to Gold Coast University Hospital on Saturday and his family say he is now in a “stable condition”.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has shown both he and his loved ones support during the past few days,” his sister Janelle Worth said.
“In particular, we are eternally grateful to Geoff Hill, Rick Forsyth and Dawso for delivering vital first aid to Craig on the beach and ultimately saving his life.”
“We are also indebted to others who came to his assistance and the many people who have cared for him since the attack.”
“We ask that people respect our privacy during this period.”
Beaches have no re-opened in the area, after remaining closed over the weekend due to a number of shark sightings.
