Family spends hours stranded in the dark, stuck on jet ski on the Gold Coast

A FATHER and his three young children have spent hours stranded in the dark on their jet ski after it became caught in mangroves on the Gold Coast.

The man had set out for an afternoon ride with his three kids on Saturday afternoon when their jet ski became caught in mangroves north of Sovereign Island.

They spent hours stranded on the jet ski, with shallow water making it impossible for water police to reach them.

The Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter was eventually dispatched to winch the family to safety around 10pm.

The man and three children were plucked off the watercraft and flown back to the chopper’s hanger at Carrara.

There, they were assessed by paramedics before being given the all clear to return home.
