Highway closed after man killed in Blue Mountains crash

A fatal traffic crash has closed part of the Great Western Highway in the NSW Blue Mountains.

Police said a car collided with a truck along a stretch of the highway at Blackheath at around 10.45am.

The driver of the car, a man aged in his 70s, was trapped for a short time, police said.

Sadly, he died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified.

The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries.

He was taken by ambulance to Katoomba Hospital for further treatment.

Investigations into what caused the crash are underway.

A crime scene has been established on the highway, prompting the closure of the eastbound lanes.

Local traffic diversions are in place at Darling Causeway, Mt Victoria.

A contra-flow is in place at the scene for westbound traffic.
