Father charged after newborn hospitalised with horrific injuries

A father has been charged after a four-week-old baby girl was rushed to hospital suffering seizures.

The infant remains in a critical but stable condition at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead after allegedly being assaulted by the 25-year-old man at a home in Sydney earlier this month.

According to NSW police, doctors told detectives that the girl had suffered serious brain, neck, and rib injuries.

“Police will allege in court that the child had been assaulted by the man at a home in Sydney’s south-west,” police said in a statement.

The newborn’s father was arrested at Parramatta Police Station yesterday and charged with recklessly inflict grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today.
