Female passenger dies after 4WD ploughs into Noosa River

Investigations are underway this morning after a woman died in a horrific traffic incident in Noosa overnight.

The 69-year-old woman was a passenger in a 4WD that was heading south west on Maximillian Road just after 9pm.

Heading towards the ferry landing, the 4WD failed to stop and veered straight into Noosa River.

The woman was unable to make it out of the vehicle in time, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 67-year-old man from Southport was driving the car at the time and was able escape the sinking vehicle to make it to safety.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
