Pacific Highway remains closed after truck explosion

UPDATE 1:50PM | THE Pacific Highway remains closed in both directions south of Tweed Heads following a fiery truck crash.

It’s understood two trucks collided on the highway just south of Chinderah around 1pm AEDT. One truck exploded into flames on impact.

The flames quickly engulfed the entire truck which is said to have been transporting building material.

It still remains unknown whether anyone has been seriously injured.

Extreme delays are being experienced and traffic diversions are in place.

EARLIER 12:40PM | A FIERY truck crash has closed the Pacific Highway in both directions south of Tweed Heads.

The accident occurred on the highway a few kilometres south of Chinderah around 1pm AEDT.

It remains unclear how many vehicles are involved, however Fire and Rescue NSW says a truck transporting building material burst into flames.

It took fire crews around 30 minutes to extinguish the inferno.

Northbound traffic is currently being diverted off the highway via Clothiers Creek Road.

Motorists heading south are being diverted off the highway via the Tweed Valley Way.

It remains unclear how many people, if any, have been injured.
