Burleigh Heads factory badly damaged after major fire

UPDATE @ 4.30PM | A factory in Burleigh Heads has been badly damaged following a fierce fire.

The blaze broke out in the factory on Tsipura Drive just before 2pm on Thursday sending plumes of thick blaze smoke into the air.

The building was quickly evacuated and all occupants were accounted for and uninjured.


Eight QFES crews attended the blaze which was eventually extinguished just after 3pm.

Investigations are now underway into the cause of the fire.

“Fortunately, everyone has got out safely, (but) the building is extensively damaged,” Senior Sergeant Brett McKibbon said.

“At this stage, we do not believe a criminal act has been involved.”

Two neighbouring businesses also suffered smoke and water damage.

EARLIER @ 2.30PM | Firefighters are battling a blaze that has broken out in a factory at Burleigh Heads.

Emergency services were called to the factory on Tsipura Drive near Township Drive just before 2pm.

There are unconfirmed reports the blaze is impacting a rubber and plastics factory.

Thick black smoke can be seen coming from the area.

Six QFES crews are currently on the scene.

Paramedics are also on standby at the scene however there are no reports of injuries at this stage.
