Fire crews battling large blaze on northern Gold Coast

A large vegetation fire has broken out on the northern Gold Coast this morning.

The blaze erupted on August Lane in Alberton around 4.00am and is understood to be threatening a nearby cane farm.

At least four Queensland Fire and Emergency crews are on scene battling the flames, with another crew en-route.

At this stage the road is closed from the intersection of Alberton Road and Rotary Park Road, with motorists urged to avoid the area.

Residents are being told to close their windows and doors due to the smoke.

Those with respiratory conditions are also being urged to keep medications close by.
