Fire crews rushed to garbage truck fire near Gold Coast Airport

Emergency services have rushed to the scene of a garbage truck fire, which erupted close to the Gold Coast Airport this morning.

The call was made to fire fighters just after 9.00 am, reporting that the garbage in the back of the truck had caught fire along Eastern Avenue at Bilinga.

The vehicle was then unable to dump the load due to a suspected mechanical failure.

Crews are on scene now but are unable to access the actual blaze.

A mechanic is being called in to help.

It’s causing a few delays for traffic getting in and out of the airport area.

More to come.
