Fire crews uncover cannabis crop growing inside unoccupied Sydney home

POLICE are investigating after firefighters uncovered a sophisticated cannabis crop growing inside an unoccupied house at Ryde, in Sydney’s north-west.

Fire crews were called to extinguish a small kitchen fire at the Bidgee Street home just after 9am on Saturday when they made the discovery.

Police were called to conduct a subsequent inspection of the scene, during which they allegedly found more than 100 cannabis plants being grown hydroponically throughout the rest of the building.

Detectives are still trying to locate those responsible for the hydroponic set-up.

Anyone with any information that may assist with the police investigation is urged to come forward.

An investigation is also underway to determine the cause of the blaze.
