Fire engulfs swampland north of Gold Coast

FIREFIGHTERS are on scene of a grass fire burning in inaccessible swampland north of the Gold Coast.

Two Queensland Fire and Emergency Service crews are on scene near Spanns Road and Kielpa Place, Beenleigh.

The fire started just before 1pm and is currently posing no threat to property.


Crews are conducting back burning operations to strengthen containment lines.

A large smoke haze is affecting nearby areas and residents are reminded to close windows and doors and keep medication on hand if suffering from a respiratory illness.

Motorists are reminded to drive to conditions and be mindful of emergency service personnel operating in the area.

If residents feel their property is under threat they are advised to call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
