Part of an abandoned school in North Parramatta has been destroyed after fire tore through the building overnight.
Just after 12.30am on Sunday, emergency services received reports of a blaze at the old Macquarie Boys High School, which has been closed since 2009.
It took about 50 firefighters to tackle the inferno and an aerial appliance had to be called in to get up high over the building to smother the flames with waters.

Fire crews managed to get the blaze under control but the hall was destroyed and the roof of the building has since collapsed.
The property has been a known hot-spot for vandalism, with firefighters admitting there was not a single window inside that hadn’t been smashed to pieces and all the buildings were littered with graffiti.
There are no CCTV cameras in the area but investigators will return to the scene this morning to try and determine the cause of the blaze.
The fire is being labelled as suspicious.
Anyone with information about the circumstances surrounding the fire is urged to come forward.
