Firefighters battle fast moving hinterland fire

4PM: MULTIPLE fire crews remain on scene of a fast-moving bushfire burning in the area of Caballo Road and Tarata Road at Guanaba.

The blaze started as a car fire about 2pm on Caballo Road and quickly spread into a large bushfire 

Flames are burning close to homes however there is no immediate threat with crews undertaking property protection. 


Crews are also conducting back-burning operations to contain the blaze. 

Motorists are urged to drive through the area with caution and residents have been advised to close windows and doors, and to keep medications close by for those suffering from respiratory conditions.

If residents are concerned their property is under threat they should phone Triple Zero (000) immediately.

3PM: FIREFIGHTERS are struggling to contain a fierce fast-moving bushfire which has broken out in the Gold Coast hinterland.

Multiple fire crews are responding to the blaze in the area of Caballo Road and Tarata and Sunvalley Courts, Guanaba. 

At 2.50pm, two fire crews were on scene, with an additional nine rural and urban units on their way.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokeswoman said the blaze was moving quickly up a hill and had jumped a number of roads.

Firefighters are carrying out structural protection in several areas with the fire now about three acres in size and expanding.

It’s believed the fire started about 2pm after flames from a vehicle fire spread into thick vegetation.
