Firefighters battle large fire at Gold Coast Spit

2.40PM: MULTIPLE fire crews are on scene of a large fire burning through dry bushland at the Gold Coast Seaway.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokeswomen said about half a dozen trucks were on scene fighting a fire roughly 100m by 50m in size.

Police, Surf Lifesavers and council representatives are also on scene, with reports police have closed part of SeaWorld Drive.

2.15PM: FIREFIGHTERS are battling a large fire was has broken out in dry vegetation at the Gold Coast Spit. 

Images uploaded to social media show a large smoke plume rising above the popular swimming spot.

Multiple fire crews are on scene, as are police who have reportedly closed part of SeaWorld Drive.

It’s understood the blaze broke out near a children’s playground about 2pm.
