Firefighters battle massive Southport house fire

SEVERAL fire crews have spent the night battling a massive blaze at a home in Southport.

The fire broke out in the Welch Street property around 12.45am on Wednesday.

A QFES spokesperson told MyGC that the two-story home was well ablaze by the time crews arrived.

It took firefighters around an hour to get it under control and the flames weren’t fully extinguished until just after 3.00am.

The building was vacant and nobody was inside.

Investigators will return later today to determine the cause.
