Firefighters forced to use ‘Jaws of Life’ to free man from gym equipment

FIREFIGHTERS have been forced to use the ‘Jaws of Life’ to rescue a man who became trapped in gym equipment at a house on the Gold Coast.

Emergency services were called to the Rumrunner Street home at Mermaid Waters just before 8am on Friday after an early morning workout ended in more pain than gain.

It’s understood the man’s leg had become caught in the exercise machine he was using.

Fire crews were forced to use hydraulic rescue tools, commonly known as the ‘Jaws of Life’, to cut the machine apart in order to free the man’s leg.

The ‘Jaws of Life’ are regularly used by firefighters to assist in extricating trapped crash victims.

Paramedics assessed the man’s ankle at the scene but he declined transport to hospital.
