Firies extinguish Reedy Creek tip blaze

UPDATE @ 10.15am: Fire crews have successfully extinguished a large fire, which broke out at the Reedy Creek Waste Transfer Station this morning.

The blaze erupted in the tip’s scrap metal section, sending thick black smoke billowing into the air.

It took crews just under an hour to bring the flames under control.

EARLIER @ 9.30am: Fire crews are currently at the scene of a large fire, burning at the Reedy Creek Waste Transfer Station.

The blaze is burning in the tip’s scrap metal section with thick black smoke billowing into the air.

People have been urged to avoid the area.
