Firies spent all night fighting bushfire at The Spit

Firefighters have returned to The Spit this morning after last night’s massive fire.

The blaze broke out in bushland near the Sheraton around 5.00 pm yesterday and quickly spread to occupy a large area.

19 crews from the rural fire service and the urban fire and rescue as well as senior support vehicles helped fight the flames, staying on scene until after midnight.

It’s still not clear what caused the blaze, but fire investigators have not been requested just yet.

A spokesperson from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said they received multiple calls from people around the Gold Coast who saw the blaze.
