Fisherman spends hours stranded on island after boat capsizes off NSW

A MAN has been rescued after becoming stranded on an island when his boat capsized off the NSW South Coast.

A dramatic search and rescue operation was triggered around 8.30pm on Wednesday night after a family member of the man’s reported him missing.

It’s understood the man set out fishing in his boat alone from the Kiloa boat ramp at around 3pm on Wednesday and had failed to return to his vehicle by nightfall.

Officers from Shoalhaven Local Area Command attended and, with the assistance of Marine Rescue vessels and Ambulance helicopter, commenced a search for the man.

His 4.5 metre aluminium boat was found capsized near Brush Island around 10pm.

A short time later, rescuers spotted the 63-year-old man standing on a set of rocks on the island.

The man was rescued and returned to shore where he was treated by paramedics.
