Two fishermen have rescued a wombat they found struggling to swim in a lake in central Tasmania.
Craig Wilson and his stepfather Bob Wilton were fishing for trout when they spotted the floundering wombat about 250m offshore.
The pair quickly used a net to scoop the “worn out” animal out of the water.

Once safely on board, Mr Wilson told BuzzFeed the wombat “sat patiently and waited for us to take him back to the shore”.
He continued: “When we put him out of the boat he just waddled off into the bush.”
