Five cars set on fire in Sydney street

Five cars have been set on fire in a street in Sydney’s eastern suburbs this morning.

Emergency services rushed to Birriga Road in Bellevue Hill shortly before 5.00am after reports the cars were well alight.

Fire & Rescue NSW officers extinguished the blaze but four cars were destroyed and one was damaged.

It’s believed the fire originated in a 2004-model Mercedes Benz 4WD which was parked in the driveway of a home, which then spread to the other four vehicle parked in the street.

The 4WD, a 2015-model VW Passat, a 2013-model Ford Focus, and a 2012-model Kia Rio were destroyed while a 2010-model Honda CRV sustained minor damaged.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is being investigated.

Until the cause is determined the fire is being treated as suspicious.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Rose Bay Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
