Five correctional officers charged with assault inside NSW prison

Police have charged five correctional officers following investigations into a number of alleged assaults at a correctional facility this year.

Between May and July 2015, seven inmates were allegedly assaulted inside a correctional facility at Silverwater.

Police from the Corrective Services Investigation Unit were alerted and launched an investigation.

Following inquiries, four men attended Burwood Police Station on Friday 21 August 2015 where they were charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

On Wednesday 26 August, a fifth man was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The men – aged 42, 35, 33 and two 32-year-olds – were given bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Thursday 10 September 2015.
