Five injured after hoons crash into creek while fleeing Police

Five people have been injured, one seriously, after two cars crashed into a Gold Coast creek while one of them was reportedly trying to flee from Police.

Officers spotted several cars hooning on Burnside Rd in Ormeau around 1.15am on Sunday morning.

They attempted to intercept one of the vehicles but lost sight of it as it sped off.

A short time later they discovered two vehicles had crashed into Sandy Creek.

Witnesses report one of the vehicles was almost completely submerged in the water.

Police and emergency services helped rescue the occupants from the vehicle.

One person was rushed to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane in a serious condition.

Four others were taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital with minor injuries.

Burnside Rd has since been reopened.

The Forensic Crash Unit and Ethical Standards are investigating.
