Five people dead in ‘major incident’

FIVE people have been found dead at a home in Perth’s northern suburbs.

The horrific discovery was made at a house on Coode Street in Bedford about midday on Sunday.

Police have confirmed a number of children are among the deceased. Their ages and genders are not known.

The property has been declared a crime scene and has been cordoned off from the public.

WA Police Assistant Commissioner Paul Steel confirmed the tragic news in a press conference at 5pm AEST.

He said a man aged in his 20s is in custody, assisting detectives with their inquiries.

In a statement, WA Police said the man walked into a regional police station and “provided some information” which led police to attend the Coode Street home.

“Attending Police discovered the deceased bodies of up to five persons including children,” the statement said.

“There are no on-going concerns for public safety as a result of this incident.”

The man’s relationship to the victims is not yet known.

The tragedy comes less than two months after a mother and her two children were murdered in their home at Ellenbrook and almost four months after seven family members were shot dead at a house at Margaret River.

No further information was available at the time of writing.
