Flaming truck blocks Gold Coast’s M1 during peak hour

UPDATE @ 9.00AM | Traffic is now being diverted off the M1 at exit 69 southbound after a truck burst into flames and blocked off a couple of lanes this morning.

It happened in the southbound lanes near exit 71 just after 8.00 am, with only one lane of traffic able to get through.

Two fire crews were deployed to the scene, and the blaze is understood to be out now.

However, traffic banked up all the way back past Coomera and is now being diverted to get the area flowing smoothly again.

It’s not clear what sparked the massive blaze, or whether or not investigators will be looking into it.

There have been no reports of injuries just yet.

EARLIER @ 8.30 AM | A truck has burst into flames on the side of the M1 this morning, causing mayhem for morning motorists.

It’s currently stopped just after the Nerang exit in the southbound lanes, with only about one lane of traffic able to move through.

Two fire crews are currently on their way to the scene, but footage from passing motorists shows the truck is well engulfed in flames.

It’s caused an absolute nightmare for the morning traffic, with delays banked up back to Coomera around 8.30 am.

No serious injuries had been reported at the time of writing.

However, the smoke from the blaze can be seen from all over the Gold Coast this morning.
