Flood warnings issued for the Gold Coast as rivers continue to rise

FLOOD Warnings have been issued for the Nerang and Coomera Rivers after Ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie dumped as much as 800mm of rain on some parts of the Gold Coast.

Major flooding is occurring along the Coomera River. The river was 8.30 metres deep at Clagiraba around 4am. This is 1.3 metres above major flood level.

Minor flooding is occurring along the Nerang River, which was 5.74 metres deep at Hinze Dam around 4am. Minor flooding is also expected along the Nerang River at Evandale with the high tide this morning.

Hinze Dam surpassed 113 per cent capacity on Thursday afternoon and continues to spill this morning.

Fast rises are also being detected in the Pimpama River, while moderate flooding is occurring in both the Mudgeeraba and Tallebudgera Creeks.
