Former Cuban Leader Fidel Castro dead at 90
Fidel Castro, the man behind the Cuban revolution, has passed away at the age of 90, according to Cuban state media.
His passing was announced by Castro’s younger brother, Raul, who has been leading the country for several years.
Fidel took power on New Year’s Day 1959, replacing the corrupt quarter-century dictator Fulgencio Batista.
During his service Castro became a spiritual beacon for the world’s political far left.
