Former Labor MP ordered to pay $458K for breaching Fair Work Act

Former federal MP Craig Thomson has been ordered to pay $458,000 for breaching the Fair Work Act.

Mr Thomson was handed the fine in the Federal Court this morning after being sued by the Fair Work Commission over credit card  transactions charged to the Health Services Union between 2003 and 2007.

Thomson was ordered to pay the Health Services Union $231,234 compensation, $146,937 in interest and an $80,000 fine to Fair Work.


However,  he will only have to pay $80,050 of the total fine if he pays within 74 days.

Are you serious, if he wasn’t a politician he would have to pay the lot. He should be made to pay back every cent and do jail time for theft. Normal Australians would have to. I guess its back to; one rule for politicians and one rule for the rest of Australia.
