Former MasterChef contestant facing sexual assault charges

It’s been revealed former Masterchef contestant Ben Ungermann has been charged with sexual assault, going some way to explaining his sudden departure from the show.

Ungermann was one of a number of former contestants who returned to the Masterchef kitchen this year for the “Back to Win” series.

It had already been widely reported that he left the show during filming earlier this year.

Sunday’s episode was the first time Ungermann was missing with judge Jock  Zonfrillo telling the other contestants he had left because of a “personal matter.”

Police in Victoria have now confirmed the 33-year-old was charged with two counts of sexual assault on March 6.

“The arrest follows an investigation into an alleged sexual assault in Docklands on 23 February,” Police said in a statement.

Ungermann has been granted bail to front Melbourne Magistrates Court on June 25.
