Former teacher charged over alleged indecent assault of young girls

A FORMER teacher has been charged over the alleged indecent assault of three young girls in the Newcastle area.

The 83-year-old man was arrested at his home in Hamilton South just before midday on Monday

His arrest comes following an ongoing investigation into the alleged offences, which allegedly took place at a Catholic primary school at West Wallsend in the 1970s and 1980s.

Police say the girls were aged seven and eight at the time the offences were allegedly committed.

The man has since been charged with six counts of indecent assault on female under 16 years.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 19 April.
