Two hospitalised after shocking Gold Coast crash

UPDATE at 4:55 PM | TWO people have been taken to hospital following a shocking crash on the Gold Coast.

A van and a ute came to grief at the major intersection of Hinkler Drive and Pappas Way in Nerang about 2.45pm.

The white van was thrown into a traffic light on impact and landed on its side, on top of the pole.

A man, believed to be aged in his 4os, was trapped in the van and needed to be cut free by emergency services.

The man was seen being removed from the badly damaged van and placed onto a stretcher in the middle of the road.

He has since been taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital with a leg injury.

Queensland Ambulance say the man was transported in a stable condition, despite earlier stating the man was ‘critical’.

A teenager was also taken to the same hospital in a stable condition as a precaution, while a third patient declined transport.

FIRST at 3:30 PM | PARAMEDICS are treating several people at the scene of a nasty multi-vehicle crash in Nerang.

It’s understood a ute and a van collided at the intersection of Hinkler Drive and Pappas Way West about 2.45pm.

The badly damaged van was thrown into a traffic light on impact and came to rest on its side, on top of the pole.

Queensland Ambulance said a team of paramedics were on the scene treating four people.

The age, gender and condition of each patient is not known.

One person, believed to be a man, was seen being removed from the van by emergency services.

He was placed onto a stretcher in the middle of the road and loaded into an awaiting ambulance.

The crash has blocked the major Nerang intersection and thrown the already congested area into chaos.

Delays are affecting traffic in all directions on Hinkler Drive and Pappas Way, as well as on the Exit 72 roundabout.
