Four injured, one trapped in multi-vehicle smash on M1

FIREFIGHTERS have used the jaws of life to cut a man out of his car following a multi-vehicle crash on the M1.

Three cars came to grief in the southbound lanes of the M1 near Exit 79 at Mudgeeraba shortly after 9am.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said four people were injured in the collision, which blocked the exit.

One man was trapped in the wreckage for over an hour and had to be cut out of his car by emergency services.

Four adult patients were transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in stable conditions.

Queensland Ambulance said three patients had minor injuries, while one had moderate injuries.

The incident triggered lengthy delays in the area, with traffic backed up for at least five kilometres at one point.

Exit 79 remained closed at 11am, with motorists wanting to get off the motorway being diverted to the next exit.
